Understanding Our Scents
At Moose's Tallow, we chose tallow because we care deeply about what goes onto our skin and, ultimately, into our bodies. Natural tallow skincare only makes sense if every ingredient — including the fragrance — meets the same standard.
If we're willing to carefully source every oil, butter, botanical, and ingredient that nourishes your skin, it would make little sense to ignore the ingredients that create their scent.
We understand why fragrance has earned a bad reputation. The words fragrance or parfum on an ingredient label can represent dozens or even hundreds of undisclosed ingredients, and many conventional fragrance formulations contain phthalates, parabens, and other ingredients the clean beauty community — and we — simply choose not to use.
At the same time, we believe natural skincare should be enjoyable. A warm vanilla, fresh citrus, comforting lavender, or cozy bakery-inspired scent can make a daily skincare routine something you genuinely look forward to.
Our goal has never been to choose between “good for you” and “smells good.” We believe you can have both.
We also recognize that every family has different standards. What we feel comfortable using may not be the same choice another family makes. Rather than deciding for you, we've chosen to be transparent about every fragrance ingredient category we use.
That's why we've organized every scent — across our whipped tallow body butter, balms, hair clay, and the rest of our tallow skincare line — into clearly defined fragrance categories.

Unscented
No added fragrance of any kind — truly fragrance-free skincare.
You'll experience only the natural aroma of our carefully rendered tallow and other nourishing ingredients. A great choice for sensitive skin and for anyone who prefers unscented tallow products.
Pure Essential Oils
Made with 100% pure essential oils distilled or cold-pressed directly from plants.
These authentic botanical aromas come straight from nature and are ideal for those who prefer traditional plant-based, essential oil–scented skincare.
100% Naturally Derived Fragrances
Made with 100% naturally derived aromatic ingredients sourced entirely from nature.
Unlike pure essential oils, these natural fragrances can combine multiple natural ingredients to create scent profiles that cannot be achieved with essential oils alone — while remaining completely naturally derived.
How is a naturally derived fragrance different from essential oils?
Essential oils are extracted directly from a single plant through methods such as steam distillation or cold pressing.
100% naturally derived fragrances may combine multiple plant extracts, essential oils, natural isolates, resins, absolutes, and other naturally sourced aromatic ingredients to create more complex scent profiles while remaining entirely derived from natural sources.
Responsibly Crafted Fragrances
Crafted with premium fragrance ingredients that may include both naturally derived ingredients and carefully selected lab-created aroma molecules.
These responsibly sourced aroma molecules make it possible to create scents that nature alone often cannot, while also improving consistency, stability, and longevity.
We carefully source these clean fragrances from trusted artisan suppliers who prioritize ingredient quality and safety.
Every responsibly crafted fragrance we use is IFRA compliant and formulated without phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, nitro musks, polycyclic musks, Lilial, Lyral, and many other ingredients we choose to avoid. In other words: phthalate-free, paraben-free fragrance you can feel good about.
Rather than purchasing the least expensive fragrance available, we evaluate every fragrance against our own ingredient standards before it ever becomes part of a Moose's Tallow product.
Signature Blends
Some of our favorite scents combine the best of both worlds by blending pure essential oils with naturally derived or responsibly crafted fragrance ingredients.
These signature blends capture the authentic character of botanical essential oils while adding the depth, balance, and lasting performance that carefully selected fragrance ingredients can provide.
Our Promise
Every fragrance we use is intentionally selected. If a fragrance doesn't meet our standards for ingredient quality, safety, and performance, it simply doesn't become a Moose's Tallow product.
We formulate skincare first and fragrance second. Our scents are chosen to complement each product, never overpower it.
