Moose's Tallow FAQ

Everything you need to know about Moose’s Whipped Tallow Body Butter—ingredients, benefits, how to use it, and what to expect.

🧴 Product Basics

What is whipped tallow body butter?
A traditional, ultra-nourishing moisturizer made from properly rendered beef tallow. Ours is whipped into a smooth, airy butter that melts into skin and helps lock in moisture—without unnecessary fillers.
Why use beef tallow for skin?
Tallow has been used for generations because its fatty acid profile is similar to our skin, making it deeply nourishing and easy to absorb compared to many plant oils.
What are the benefits of tallow?
Naturally rich in skin-friendly fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, and K. Commonly used for dryness, rough patches, hands, elbows, and winter skin.
Why is your tallow different?
We use properly rendered beef suet, processed slowly to remove impurities and odor. The result is a cleaner, smoother butter that absorbs better and feels more refined on skin.

✨ How It Feels & Smells

Will it feel greasy?
If you use too much, it can feel heavy at first. Start with a small amount, warm it between your fingers, and apply to slightly damp skin. Most people find it absorbs within a few minutes.
A little goes a long way.
What does it smell like?
Warm, cozy, and slightly sweet—like a bakeshop just finished something incredible. Some batches may have a faint natural tallow note underneath, but the finished scent is designed to feel clean and inviting.
Can I use it every day?
Yes—this butter is designed for daily use, morning or night depending on your routine.

🧴 How To Use

How do I apply it?
  1. Scoop a small amount
  2. Warm between fingers
  3. Apply to slightly damp skin
Works great on hands, feet, elbows, knees, and dry areas.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes. Start with a rice-grain size amount. If you’re acne-prone, try using it at night or on drier areas first.
Will it clog pores?
Tallow works well for many skin types, but everyone’s skin is different. Start with a small amount and see how your skin responds.
Is it good for sensitive skin?
Many customers with sensitive skin prefer simple formulas. We recommend a patch test for 24 hours before regular use. Our unscented options and Baby Butter are popular for extra-sensitive skin.

🌿 Ingredients & Formulation

What ingredients are in it?
Our body butter is built around properly rendered beef tallow, combined with a few intentional ingredients for texture and absorption:

Tallow, Beeswax, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), and Fragrance (essential oils or clean fragrance).
Do you use preservatives or chemicals?
Our body butters contain no water, so they don’t require traditional preservatives. Products that do contain water (like magnesium butter) use a coconut-derived preservative for safety.
What is “clean fragrance”?
We use phthalate-free, paraben-free fragrance oils or essential oils, always at low levels. Designed to be safe, simple, and smell incredible.

📦 Shipping & Storage

How fast is shipping?
Orders placed before 2PM Eastern usually ship the same day. Delivery times vary by carrier and by the shipping option you choose at checkout. We ship to the USA, Canada and Mexico. Free shipping applies to US orders only.
Will it melt during shipping?
In warm weather, it may soften or melt. This is normal and does not affect quality. Let it cool before opening or place it in the fridge to firm back up.
How should I store it?
Keep cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Texture may change slightly with temperature, but performance stays the same.
What’s the shelf life?
Typically 9–18 months depending on storage. If it ever smells off or changes dramatically, discontinue use.

💬 Purchase Confidence

Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes—every order is backed by our 30-day money-back guarantee. If you don’t love it, we’ll make it right.
How long does one jar last?
Most customers get 2–4 months from a jar with regular use. A little goes a long way.
