Moose’s Tallow is made from locally raised suet — the prized, nutrient-dense fat from around the kidneys, known for its purity and stability. It’s slowly rendered in small batches and whipped into a smooth, scoopable butter that melts on contact. It absorbs quickly and leaves skin soft, comfortable, and deeply nourished, never greasy, never heavy.
Because suet tallow closely matches the oils your skin naturally produces, it sinks in beautifully and helps support your skin barrier instead of just coating it. And unlike many tallow products, there’s no lingering beef scent, just clean, warm, intentional fragrance (or none at all).

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare
Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.
I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters, but Moose’s Tallow has truly been a full family project from the beginning.
I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I eliminated processed foods and focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our skin?
With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.
What began as a small project to make better skincare just for my family to bless them eventually turned into something much bigger.

Is there actually moose tallow in Moose’s Tallow?
Nope — it’s just a name. I am Moose, and I’m hopeful that someday my grandchildren will call me Grandpa Moose, so the name stuck. What’s actually inside the jars is fresh, properly rendered beef suet tallow, made the traditional way for clean, deeply nourishing skincare.
What is suet, and why do you use that word?
Suet is the small, premium fat found around a cow’s kidneys and loins. A cow can have hundreds of pounds of fat, but suet is only a small portion and is considered the cleanest, most nutrient-dense, and highest-quality fat for making tallow.
That’s why we use only suet in our products — fat from other parts of the cow can be much lower quality for skincare tallow.
Is it good for sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema, or acne?
Many customers with sensitive skin, rosacea, or eczema prefer simple formulas with fewer ingredients. Our Baby Butter is often the best place to start because it is fragrance-free and made with calendula and chamomile, two ingredients traditionally used to soothe delicate skin.
Some people with acne-prone skin also prefer simple moisturizers, but because everyone’s skin is different we always recommend doing a 24-hour patch test on the inner forearm before applying to larger areas.
Does Moose’s Tallow support sustainable agriculture?
Yes. Tallow is made from beef suet — a natural byproduct of the food system that has been traditionally rendered instead of wasted.
We source our suet from a local butcher shop in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, surrounded by rural family farms. By turning that suet into high-quality tallow, we’re simply continuing the long tradition of using more of the animal responsibly instead of letting it go to waste.
What’s the shelf life?
Tallow is naturally very stable. Most Moose’s Tallow products have a shelf life of about 12–18 months when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Because we use properly rendered suet-based tallow and natural antioxidants like vitamin E, the oils stay fresh for a long time without the need for harsh preservatives.
Will tallow feel greasy?
Tallow is excellent at sealing in moisture, which is why it works best when applied to slightly damp skin after cleansing.
If you put it on very dry skin, it can feel a bit heavy or greasy at first. Start with a small pea-sized amount, warm it between your fingers, and apply to damp skin — most people find it absorbs nicely within a few minutes.
