In short: a typical big-brand scrub is mostly water and seed oils, tinted with synthetic dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 5, and bound with PEGs and phenoxyethanol. Sugar Polish Myths
- Sugar scrubs are too harsh for your skin.Sugar granules are rounder and gentler than salt. Ours soften as you massage, so they buff without tearing.
- Tallow will leave you greasy or clog pores.Rendered tallow is close to your skin’s own oils. The sugar carries the excess away when you rinse.
- Scrubs strip your skin’s moisture.Plain ones can. Ours leaves tallow and oatmeal behind, so skin feels soft instead of tight.
- You need plastic microbeads to really exfoliate.Cane sugar does the same job and dissolves in water. No microplastics down your drain.
- Oatmeal in skincare is just marketing.Colloidal oatmeal is finely milled to help calm and soothe skin. It earns its place.
- Small-batch polishes can’t compete with the big brands.Moose’s Tallow is a family-run maker in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. We make this Sugar Polish by hand in small batches. That means fresh jars, simple ingredients, and no fillers added to stretch shelf life. You get skincare made by people who answer you, not a factory line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Simple answers about tallow sugar scrubs, how to use them, and what is inside.
What does a tallow sugar scrub do?
It exfoliates and softens in one step. The cane sugar buffs away dry, flaky skin, while beef tallow and colloidal oatmeal stay behind to nourish and calm it.
You rinse, and skin feels smooth instead of tight.
How often should I use a body scrub?
Two or three times a week suits most skin. Go once a week if your skin runs dry or sensitive.
Spend a little extra time on rough spots like elbows, knees, and feet.
Is a sugar scrub better than a salt scrub?
For most people, yes. Sugar granules are rounder and gentler than salt, so they polish without feeling harsh.
Salt can sting fresh nicks or very dry skin.
Will the tallow leave my skin greasy?
No. The sugar rinses away and carries the excess oil with it, so you are left soft and conditioned, not slick.
A little scrub goes a long way.
Is it gentle enough for sensitive skin?
It is made to be. We skip plastic microbeads, water fillers, and harsh sulfates, and add colloidal oatmeal to help calm skin.
Patch test first if you react easily.
How do I choose a scent?
Pick by the mood you want. We make Blackberries and Cream, Coconut, and Fresh Strawberry, all scented with food-inspired fragrance.
Each one smells like a treat, with no beefy scent.

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare
Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.
I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.
I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our skin?
With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.
What started as a small project for my family eventually turned into something much bigger.
