Moose's Tallow sun care covers your time in the sun and after it. The tallow and zinc sun balm goes on as a rich, water-resistant layer of non-nano zinc oxide, in 10, 20, or 30 percent, tin or push-up tube. When the day is done, the coconut after-sun body butter melts into warm, sun-exposed skin to soothe and rehydrate it. Everything is handmade in small batches by our family in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The sun balm is not SPF-rated.

What is the sun balm?

It is a rich balm made from beef tallow and non-nano zinc oxide. It goes on thick and water-resistant and leaves a light mineral layer on the skin. It is meant for outdoor days, and it is not SPF-rated.

What do the zinc percentages mean?

They are how much zinc oxide is in the balm: 10, 20, or 30 percent. A higher percentage leaves a heavier mineral layer and a more visible white cast. Pick based on how much coverage you want.

Does it leave a white cast?

Yes, a light one. Zinc oxide is a white mineral, so the balm can leave a faint tint, more so at higher percentages. Rub it in well and it settles down.

Is it waterproof?

It is water-resistant, not waterproof. The tallow base helps it stay put and resist sweat and splashes. Reapply after swimming, toweling off, or heavy sweat.

Is it SPF-rated?

No. We do not put an SPF number on it because it is not lab-tested for SPF. Use it as part of your outdoor routine, not as a substitute for tested sunscreen if you need one.

What is the after-sun butter for?

Our coconut after-sun body butter soothes and rehydrates warm, sun-exposed skin. Smooth it on after a day outside to help skin feel cool and soft.

Do I use the sun balm and after-sun together?

Yes. Wear the zinc sun balm while you are outside, then use the after-sun butter afterward. One protects, the other soothes and rehydrates.

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare

Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.

I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.

I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our skin?

With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.

What started as a small project for my family eventually turned into something much bigger.
