Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.

I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.

I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our body?

With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.

Calendula-Infused Oil Calendula-Infused OilMade by slowly steeping calendula (marigold) flowers in a carrier oil. Calendula is one of the gentlest, most soothing plants in skincare, often chosen for sensitive or easily upset skin. In our balms it helps calm and comfort delicate areas.

Using clean fingers, scoop a small amount and warm it between your fingertips until it softens and spreads easily.

Layer On

Smooth a generous, visible layer over clean, dry skin across the diaper area. It's a barrier balm, so a slightly thicker coat is a good thing.

Protect

Reapply at every change, or at the first sign of redness — especially overnight. For external use only.

How do we render tallow?

It starts at a local butcher shop in farm country, where one cow yields about 12 pounds of suet. That suet is the fat around the cow's kidneys, rich in vitamins A, D, E and K. Its fatty acids are ones your skin loves, so we render it slowly, by hand.

Day 1 & 2

Two renders of tallow over low heat, six hours each
Day 3 & 4

Dry render for eight hours, cool & dry render again for another eight hours
Day 5

Infuse tallow and oil with organic herbs over low heat for 12-24 hours
Day 6

Add in beeswax and essential oils (if applicable), cool, whip and fill by hand
