Cleaner Than Your Big-Brand Scrub

In short: a typical big-brand scrub is mostly water and seed oils, tinted with synthetic dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 5, and bound with PEGs and phenoxyethanol. Moose’s is waterless beef tallow, real cane sugar, and colloidal oat, colored with natural mica and kept fresh with a coconut-derived preservative.

Facts vs Fiction

Sugar Polish Myths

  • Sugar scrubs are too harsh for your skin.Sugar granules are rounder and gentler than salt. Ours soften as you massage, so they buff without tearing.
  • Tallow will leave you greasy or clog pores.Rendered tallow is close to your skin’s own oils. The sugar carries the excess away when you rinse.
  • Scrubs strip your skin’s moisture.Plain ones can. Ours leaves tallow and oatmeal behind, so skin feels soft instead of tight.
  • You need plastic microbeads to really exfoliate.Cane sugar does the same job and dissolves in water. No microplastics down your drain.
  • Oatmeal in skincare is just marketing.Colloidal oatmeal is finely milled to help calm and soothe skin. It earns its place.
  • Small-batch polishes can’t compete with the big brands.Moose’s Tallow is a family-run maker in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. We make this Sugar Polish by hand in small batches. That means fresh jars, simple ingredients, and no fillers added to stretch shelf life. You get skincare made by people who answer you, not a factory line.

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare

Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.

I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.

I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our skin?

With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.

What started as a small project for my family eventually turned into something much bigger.

  • Beef Tallow Beef Tallow Beef TallowRendered from high-quality beef suet, sourced locally when we can. It is naturally rich in skin-friendly fats and the vitamins A, D, E, and K. • Colloidal Oatmeal Colloidal Oatmeal Colloidal OatmealSimply oats ground very fine, trusted for generations to soothe dry, sensitive, or itchy skin. It helps support the skin's barrier and adds a silky, calming feel. In our scrubs and balms it softens and comforts as it works.
  • Cocoa Butter Cocoa Butter Cocoa ButterA rich, natural butter pressed from cocoa beans and packed with nourishing fatty acids. It deeply softens skin and helps lock in moisture, while adding richness and body to our balms and polishes. Simple and natural.
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT) Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT) Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT)A light, pure oil made from coconut, also called MCT oil. It is built from stable medium-chain fats, so it absorbs fast and stays fresh. It helps balms and butters glide on smoothly and sink in, leaving a silky, non-greasy finish.

Pistachio Sugar Scrub FAQ

Straight answers about our pistachio sugar scrub: how often to use it, how it feels, and what is inside.

How often should I use a sugar scrub?

Two or three times a week works for most skin. Use it once a week if your skin runs dry or sensitive. This pistachio sugar scrub also suits dry skin that needs gentle buffing.

Does it smell like beef?

No. Clean-rendered tallow is neutral, so you only smell the toasted pistachio and caramel scent we add.

Is it gentle on sensitive skin?

It is made to be gentle. Sugar is softer than salt, and colloidal oatmeal helps calm skin. Patch test first if you react easily.

Will it clog my shower drain?

The sugar dissolves in warm water and rinses away. Wipe up any oil film so the floor is not slippery.

Will the tallow leave me greasy?

No. The sugar rinses away and takes the excess oil with it. You are left soft, not slick, and a little goes a long way.

Can I use it on my face?

We make this one for the body. Facial skin is thinner and more delicate, so keep the scrub below the neck.

What is inside?

Simple ingredients that exfoliate and soften dry skin. Cane sugar buffs, while beef tallow and colloidal oatmeal soften. We finish with a light carrier oil, vitamin E, and toasted pistachio caramel fragrance.

How do I use it?

Scoop a little onto damp skin in the shower. Massage in slow circles, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.
