Sun Balm 10% Zinc (Coconut)
Think of it as a zinc oxide ointment and zinc oxide cream for face and hands.
Dab a little onto cheeks, nose, and the backs of your hands where skin gets driest. The rich, non-greasy base soaks into wind-worn skin fast. It softens flaky patches and eases rough, tight spots. A light coconut base makes it easy, everyday wear.
We blend beef tallow, a touch of coconut, and light oils with 10% non-nano zinc oxide. That lays down a gentle mineral barrier for skin facing cold, dry air. No water and no chemical fillers thin it, so a little spreads far and stays put.
Plenty of people reach for this one on ordinary days, not only sunny ones. Keep it out of hot cars, since the tallow base can soften in heat. We make it in small batches from ingredients we trust on our own family.
Note: This is a skin-conditioning balm and mineral sunscreen alternative, not an SPF-rated sunscreen. It is not meant to prevent sunburn or block UV rays.

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare
Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.
I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.
I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our skin?
With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.
What started as a small project for my family eventually turned into something much bigger.
Key Ingredients
Full Ingredient List
Ingredients: Beef Tallow, Fractionated Coconut Oil (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride), Non-Nano Zinc Oxide, Castor Oil (Ricinus Communis Seed Oil), Beeswax (Cera Alba), Lecithin, Cetyl Alcohol (plant-derived softener), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Carrot Seed Oil
Why These Ingredients?
We keep this formula simple and intentional. Properly rendered tallow forms the base, chosen for its rich, skin-supporting fats that help condition and protect. Lightweight oils improve spreadability, while non-nano zinc oxide creates a mineral barrier on the skin. Beeswax helps the balm stay in place during real outdoor use, and cetyl alcohol adds a soft, smooth feel without greasiness. Lecithin helps keep the zinc evenly dispersed for a more consistent, smooth application. Carrot seed oil complements the formula with naturally supportive properties for sun-exposed skin, while vitamin E helps maintain freshness. Every ingredient is here for a reason. Nothing watered down. Nothing unnecessary.

Zinc Oxide Cream FAQ (10% Coconut Sun Balm)
Everything to know about our light 10% zinc oxide cream in a coconut tallow base for everyday skin.
Does this actually help protect my skin?
Sun Balm is a mineral zinc oxide cream made with non-nano zinc oxide. It creates a physical mineral barrier that sits on top of your skin. This ingredient is common in natural and mineral sun care.
Will it leave a white cast?
A light white cast is normal with any zinc oxide cream. The mineral sits on top of the skin. At 10% zinc, the cast is lighter than our higher levels. It blends better when applied in thin layers. Using too much may make it more visible.
Can I use this tallow balm on my face?
Yes. Many use this coconut tallow balm on the face, neck, and arms. It sinks into dry, wind-worn skin as a rich balm for face and body. Smooth a little onto cheeks, nose, and hands. It leaves a light mineral finish.
What’s the difference between zinc levels?
Different zinc oxide levels create different mineral coverage and feel. This 10% zinc oxide cream is our lightest option for everyday use. The 20% and 30% versions create a thicker mineral layer. Choose based on your expected sun exposure.
How do I use it?
Apply this natural sun balm to exposed skin before time outdoors. Warm a small amount between your fingers. Apply a thin, even layer. Reapply during extended sun exposure. Reapply after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
Why use zinc oxide?
Non-nano zinc oxide is one of the most trusted ingredients in mineral sun care. A zinc oxide cream provides broad-spectrum mineral coverage. The mineral remains on top of the skin. It is widely used in natural sun care.
Will it feel greasy?
Sun Balm is rich and nourishing because it blends tallow with mineral sun care. It softens quickly with body heat. The coconut balm spreads smoothly across the skin. It forms a light protective mineral layer.
What is Sun Balm?
Sun Balm is a tallow-based mineral sunscreen alternative with non-nano zinc oxide. It uses no chemical sunscreen filters and no water or fillers. This 10% version is made for everyday sun exposure and time outside.
Why use tallow in Sun Balm?
Beef tallow helps nourish and condition skin while working alongside zinc oxide. It supports the skin barrier. It helps reduce dryness from sun exposure. It gives this balm a rich moisturizing base.
Will it melt in the heat?
Because this is a real tallow-based sun balm, it can soften or melt in heat. Store it in a cool location when possible. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight. The balm stays usable after it cools.
How long does it last?
Sun Balm typically lasts 9 to 12 months when stored properly. No water means excellent stability. Store it in a cool, dry place. Color may naturally vary from white to yellow.
