The balm that feeds dry lips instead of glazing them.

A clean balm should feed dry lips, not just glaze them. This salted caramel lip balm sinks into dry, chapped lips and softens them. There is no petroleum, and no waxy glaze to peel off.

It is beef tallow, egg yolk oil, and beeswax. Tallow matches your skin's own oils, so it soaks in and conditions. Egg yolk oil leaves lips soft and smooth.

Sweet, buttery caramel with a pinch of salt. We tube each small batch in recycled paper.

Why I Started Making Tallow Skincare

Hi, my name is Brian, though around here I don’t mind being called Moose.

I’ve learned most of what I know about skincare from the women in my life, especially my wife and our four daughters. Moose’s Tallow has truly been a family project from the beginning.

I started making tallow skincare after a serious health scare forced me to rethink everything I put in my body. Once I focused on real ingredients, another question came up: if what we eat matters that much… what about what we put on our body?

With a busy home full of people I love, that question mattered a lot. When my daughters told me they were already using tallow for skincare, I decided to learn how to make it myself.

What started as a small project for my family eventually turned into something much bigger.

Key Ingredients

  • Beef Tallow Beef Tallow Beef TallowRendered from high-quality beef suet, sourced locally when we can. It is naturally rich in skin-friendly fats and the vitamins A, D, E, and K. Because it mirrors your skin's own oils, it absorbs clean and holds moisture without feeling greasy. A simple, time-tested base with nothing synthetic.
  • Egg Yolk Oil Egg Yolk Oil Egg Yolk OilInfused in-house by drawing the nourishing oils from dried egg yolks into light coconut oil. Yolks are naturally rich in fatty acids and skin-loving vitamins, so the oil deeply conditions and leaves skin and lips soft and resilient. An old-world ingredient, made the slow way.
  • Lanolin Lanolin LanolinA natural wax gathered from sheep's wool, and one of nature's best moisture sealers. It locks water into the skin and helps block the dryness that cracks hands and lips. A traditional ingredient that simply works, used at just the right amount.
  • Natural Organic Flavor Natural Organic Flavor Natural Organic FlavorThe natural, organic flavors that give our lip balms their taste, from banana cream to peppermint. They are non-GMO and free of artificial colors. Used only in some lip balms, at a light touch, for a balm you enjoy wearing.
  • Castor Oil Castor Oil Castor OilPressed from the seeds of the castor plant and used for generations. It is thick and rich, naturally full of ricinoleic acid that conditions skin and locks in moisture. In our balms it adds slip and a protective, nourishing feel. Ours is cold-pressed and hexane-free.

HOW TO USE

Soft, Comfortable Lips

1

Twist

Twist the tube to raise a small amount above the rim. A little goes a long way.

2

Glide

Apply a light, even layer to clean, dry lips. On colder days, warm the balm against your lips for a smoother glide.

3

Smile

Reapply as needed throughout the day to help keep lips soft, comfortable, and protected from the elements.

How do we render tallow?

It starts at a local butcher shop in farm country, where one cow yields about 12 pounds of suet. That suet is the fat around the cow's kidneys, rich in vitamins A, D, E and K. Its fatty acids are ones your skin loves, so we render it slowly, by hand.

  1. Hands stirring a stainless pot of beef tallow slowly rendering over low heat on a stove

    Day 1 & 2

Two renders of tallow over low heat, six hours each

  2. Shallow trays of rendered tallow cooling from golden to creamy white on a wooden table

    Day 3 & 4

Dry render for eight hours, cool & dry render again for another eight hours

  3. Glass jar of tallow and oil infusing with dried calendula and arnica flowers in a sunny window

    Day 5

Infuse tallow and oil with organic herbs over low heat for 12-24 hours

  4. A person whipping fluffy tallow body butter in a ceramic bowl with a whisk

    Day 6

Add in beeswax and essential oils (if applicable), cool, whip and fill by hand
